From Sketch to Fixatif
I decided to take my second 5.5" x 8.5" sketch further. After researching panther images, taking reference photos of my friend, building some crude maquettes and finishing the final drawing on canvas, I applied a couple layers of Krylon Wokable Fixatif in my garage. The piece is 24" x 36" and I'll be using the crazy oils.

Wow...that is quite an undertaking. The size, I mean. Do you freehand your transfer or use a grid??
ReplyDeleteAlready, I'm loving the fluid movement of the panthers and the lost edge of the one cat's paw at the bottom. Keep sharing.
Yeah, I haven't done a painting this big in a long time. Keeping the background simple should help it move along. I draw freehand and use my pencil to measure out features on the face, etc. Glad you're enjoying the process and thanks so much for stopping by!
